S3.E4: Mothering the Mother with Ayurvedic Doula Jenna Furnari
Wednesday Jul 17, 2019
Wednesday Jul 17, 2019
On this episode, Jessica chats with Ayurvedic Practitioner and Ayurvedic Postpartum Doula, Jenna Furnari, all about how to use ayurveda during the postpartum period of pregnancy. Jenna works primarily as an ayurvedic postpartum doula, and trains other women to do the same (Jessica took her training, it is great!). She talks about the importance of the first 42 days after giving birth — how a new mother needs to rest, rebuild ojas/balance vata dosha, and bond with her baby. An ayurvedic postpartum doula comes into a new mother’s home and helps prepare nourishing foods, can help with breastfeeding/lactation, helps support the mother with physical recovery after delivery, and is there to help with bodywork/self-massage/abhyanga, breath work, and meditation. It is this idea of using the principles of ayurveda for “mothering the mother” to provide loving and safe support to the new mama during an immensely transitional period in her life.
